Formed December 2008 at the University of Southern California, our 5-man pop/jazz operation is based out of Los Angeles, having performed all over Southern California at notable venues like the Troubadour, the Key Club, and the Knitting Factory.  What started as an extension of my solo career grew into a full band sound that deserved the distinguishing title of "Derik Nelson Band" to clarify the distinct group effort it takes to craft and communicate the music heard on "NORTH."  It is an extreme privilege to have bandmates that double as best friends, and it's an honor to share stages, studios, and barstools with them.
